With a strong academic background in Sociology with Criminology and years of experience working with youth charities, particularly those focused on BAME communities, Sofiya has committed her career to advocating for marginalized groups.

As a second-generation Somali woman with family members from an immigrant background, Sofiya has witnessed firsthand the complexities of navigating new cultural environments and the unique struggles faced by Muslim women.

Sofiya is committed to ensuring Unshackle Dumar becomes a transformative force in the lives of Muslim women.

Marian

Marian's career journey spans diverse industries, including direct sales, tech startups, and operations management. Known for her ambition, self-motivation, and career-driven focus, she often thrives in fast-paced environments. However, the pandemic sparked a profound shift in her perspective, leading to a desire to pursue a career supporting marginalized communities.

As a result, Marian returned to education as a mature student and earned a 2:1 degree in Community Development and Leadership. For the past few years, Marian has worked for a feminist, refugee organization that supports women in the asylum process in the UK where she has been able to gain valuable insight.

Marian's passion lies in serving those most in need, and she finds deep fulfillment in her work with marginalized groups. Her motivation for Unshackle Dumar is rooted in the belief that the organization can provide vital support to hard-to-reach communities, with a special focus on BAME and muslim women.

Aminatta Bah

Treasurer

Based in London (UK), Aminata is a mother and an End FGM (Female Genital Mutilations) advocate, and recipient of the True Honour Awards 2024, from IKROW Women’s Rights Organisation.

Aminata is currently a registered children and families Social Worker. Before this, she has worked with NHS England supporting FGM survivors and affected communities. Her background is in Human Resources management, Adult Professional Training, and Early Childhood Education.

For over a decade, Aminata has been working alongside charitable organisations , such as FORWARD UK, and LA FRATERNITE, to educate, sensitise, support and empower women, girls, and communities affected by FGM and other form's of VAWG, in London and beyond.

In 2021, Aminata joined Unshackle Dumar to serve BAME/Muslims communities in London and since, she has been working closely with the Cllr Naima Ali, the Mayor of Southwark and FGM Ambassador.
